The Bakersfield Restaurant

Bakersfield's neighborhood spot for scratch Mexican & ice-cold cervezas.

On the corner of Coffee Rd. & Stockdale, our Bakersfield restaurant plates up hand-pressed tortillas and slow-simmered salsas from open to close — 11 AM to 10 PM, every single day. Kern County knows food, and Kern County knows a good taco. We aim to earn our spot on that short list.

We opened here because Bakersfield already had a Mexican-food scene worth respecting. That set the bar high. So we brought the same recipes that made our other restaurants work — nothing frozen, nothing pre-made, nothing you couldn't make at home if you had abuela's time — and we let the food speak for itself. Six months in, we couldn't keep tables free on Taco Tuesday. Six years in, we still can't.

Why Bakersfield keeps coming back

We're the lunch spot for oil-field crews wrapping shifts, the after-work happy hour for the Stockdale office corridor, the Sunday-family-dinner destination for the west side, and the “I need something real” answer for CSUB students. On Taco Tuesday, we're pretty much the whole town — arrive before 6 or plan to wait.

What to try first

Bakersfield's most-ordered plate is the Carnitas Platter — pork shoulder simmered until it shreds under a fork, crisped on the flat-top, served with rice, beans, and warm tortillas. Split a Chicken Fajita Quesadilla to start and end the night with a House Sangria pitcher. You'll be back next week. We know.

Getting here

Find us at 600 Coffee Rd, in the shopping plaza on Coffee Rd. Free parking right in front. We're a 5-minute drive from The Marketplace, 5 minutes north of CSU Bakersfield, and easy on-and-off from both the 99 and the 58. Coming from Delano, Shafter, or Tehachapi? Worth the trip.

Catering for the office (or the whole crew)

We cater across Bakersfield, Shafter, and Delano — office lunches, birthday parties, weddings, quinceañeras, oil-and-gas company events, and everything in between. Call (661) 664-1400 or send a catering inquiry and we'll build the menu.
